The most common genetic risk factor known for Parkinson's disease is a damaging variant in the GBA1 gene. However, the entire GBA1 gene has rarely been studied in a large cohort from a single population. Therefore, in collaboration with Lysosomal Therapeutics, GenomeScan and several expert centres throughout the Netherlands*, we have assessed the GBA1 gene in a total of 3402 Dutch Parkinson's disease patients using next‐generation sequencing. The study was recently published in Movement Disorders, read it here.
